Mohammed Gul Gul Tusay, the founder of Hyderabad, established Charminar in the central area in the original city plan in 1591. It is said that the Charminar was built as a charm to protect the city from deadly epidemics that were raging. With four graceful minarets of 48.7 meters high, the Charminar has 45 prayer rooms and a mosque inside the tower.
