- Background: Voyager 1 is a space probe from the US space agency NASA for the exploration of the outer planetary system and interstellar space as part of the Voyager program. It was launched on September 5, 1977, from Launch Complex 41 on Cape Canaveral with a Titan IIIE Centaur rocket. Its identical sister probe, Voyager 2, took off on a different trajectory 16 days earlier. Voyager 1 first flew to the planets Jupiter and Saturn and entered interstellar space on August 25, 2012, as the first man-made object. Voyager 2 is a NASA spacecraft for exploring the outer planetary system as part of the Voyager program. It was launched on August 20, 1977, from Launch Complex 41 on Cape Canaveral with a Titan IIIE Centaur rocket. The identically constructed probe Voyager 1 took off 16 days later on a different trajectory.
