  • ⚙Prototype Introduction:
The Milwaukee-Eight engine is the company's ninth-generation "Big Twin" engine, but it is only the fourth entirely new Big Twin introduced by Harley in 80 years, first debuting in 2016. These engines differ from traditional Big Twin engines as each cylinder boasts four valves, totaling eight, hence its name. Moreover, it signifies a return to the single camshaft configuration used on Harley Big Twin engines from 1936 to 1999. All these engines feature internal balancers, with dual camshafts balancing only Softail models, and the engine is rigidly mounted on Softail models.
  • ⚙Reception:
Cycle World, like many other motorcycle magazines, was given the opportunity to test ride and review the Milwaukee-Eight engine. The reviews have been positive, and report a better ride quality. Cycle World's reviewer reported a noticeable reduction in the heat output from the engine, enabling the reviewer to ride more comfortably. The review concludes that the changes make this engine an improvement over its predecessor.
