MOC-254665 US Attack Helicopter - 1:70 Scale Building Blocks
The AH-64 is an American twin-turboprop attack helicopter featuring tail-wheel landing gear and a tandem cockpit. The sensors installed at the front of the aircraft assist in target detection and night vision. Below the front of the fuselage is a 30-millimeter (1.18-inch) M230 belt-fed cannon, and there are four external mounting points on the short wings for carrying weapons and ammunition, typically AGM-114 and Hydra 70 rocket launchers. The redundant system enables it to continue operating after combat damage.
The helicopter was originally the Model 77 developed for the US Army's Advanced Attack Helicopter Program, aiming to replace the AH-1 helicopter. The YAH-64 prototype made its maiden flight on September 30, 1975. In 1976, the US Army chose the YAH-64 over the YAH-63, and approved full-scale production in 1982. In 1984, the company was acquired, and subsequent buyers continued to produce and develop the AH-64. This type of helicopter was officially deployed to the US Army in April 1986. The advanced AH-64D was delivered to the US Army in March 1997 and continues to be produced. As of March 2024, more than 2,700 helicopters have been delivered to the US Army and its 18 international partners and allies.
The AH-64 is mainly used by the US Army and has become the main attack helicopter for several countries including Greece, Japan, Israel, the Netherlands, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. The UK was granted permission to produce this model, known as the AgustaWestland Apache. The US AH-64 was involved in conflicts in Panama, the Persian Gulf, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran. Israel also used the Apache in operations in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. The British and Dutch AH-64 were deployed to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq in 2001 and 2003 respectively.
