- ð Background: Legend has it that a long time ago, Hercules, the god of Hercules in Greek mythology, and Geryon, the giant of Greek mythology, fought a war, which lasted for three days and three nights, and Hercules was victorious. In gratitude to Hercules, a lighthouse was built in the place where they fought, and it was named Torre de Hercules. Today, the lighthouse stands on a peninsula at the northern tip of La Coruna in northwestern Spain, bearing witness to the changes in the world's history. As early as the second century AD, the ancient Romans built the majestic Lighthouse of Hercules, which has been standing tall for nearly 2,000 years and is still as strong as ever, becoming the only ancient Roman lighthouse still shining and navigating. Between 1788 and 1791, the lighthouse of Hercules underwent extensive repairs, with a height of 55 meters and 242 spiral staircases, and an exterior decoration in the neoclassical style. Known as the oldest working lighthouse in the world, the Hercules Lighthouse is the symbol of the city of A Coruña, with an ancient Roman lighthouse carved in the middle of the city coat of arms. The Hercules Lighthouse was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2009.
