Designed as an advanced architectural project, the model is divided into three major sections — the bell tower, front section, and rear section — making such a large structure easier to construct, handle, and display.

Iconic Florence Cathedral Architecture

The model recreates the cathedral’s richly decorated exterior through layered architectural details, contrasting colors, arches, windows, and ornamental patterns that give the building its extraordinary visual character.

White, Green & Red Facade

One of the defining features of the real cathedral is its distinctive marble color scheme. The model carefully recreates this combination throughout the facade, helping preserve the instantly recognizable appearance of the Florence landmark.

Brunelleschi-Inspired Dome

The enormous dome dominates the rear section of the cathedral and serves as one of the most technically demanding elements of the entire build.

Its interior incorporates a dedicated support structure, allowing the finished dome to remain stable despite its size and complex geometry.

Giotto's Campanile

The separate bell tower recreates the tall, elegant proportions and decorative exterior of Giotto’s Campanile, forming a striking companion to the cathedral itself.

The designer recommends beginning the project with the tower before progressing to the larger cathedral sections.

Three-Part Modular Construction

The complete structure is divided into:

• Giotto’s Campanile
• Front section of the cathedral
• Rear section with the dome

These sections connect together to form the complete display while remaining separable for transportation or individual presentation.

Built & Tested in Real Life

The complete model was physically constructed by the designer, allowing the structure, connections, and particularly the large dome to be tested outside of the digital design environment.

Advanced Building Experience

The bell tower is comparatively straightforward, while the cathedral becomes progressively more challenging.

The front section is suited to builders with previous MOC experience, while the rear section and dome require more advanced building skills due to their complex structure and internal reinforcement.

Structural Interior

The cathedral does not include a detailed interior, as the internal space is primarily used to support and reinforce the enormous exterior structure.

This allows the model to focus fully on architectural accuracy, scale, and structural stability.

From the Designer

SebastianFink was inspired to create this project after visiting Florence in 2025.

Seeing Florence Cathedral and Giotto’s Campanile in person left such a strong impression that the architecture remained on his mind long after the trip. What originally began as an idea for a relatively compact cathedral gradually grew into a far more ambitious project.

The designer ultimately developed a massive three-section model, physically built and tested in real life, with particular attention paid to the cathedral’s distinctive marble colors, monumental dome, and structural stability.
