Designed and authorized by count_of_brick, this meticulously crafted model faithfully recreates the iconic details and design elements of the Italy Vittorio Veneto Battleship. This set features the battleship's primary armament, comprising 9 cannons housed in three triple turrets. Two turrets are positioned forward in a super firing arrangement, while the third turret is situated aft. Complementing its firepower are twelve secondary guns, distributed among four triple turrets nestled in the corners of the upper structure. Additionally, four single-mount guns enhance its defensive capabilities.
- Background: The Vittorio Veneto, part of the formidable Littorio-class battleships, played a pivotal role in the Royal Italian Navy during World War II. Launched in July 1937 and commissioned in August 1940, it commemorated Italy's triumph at Vittorio Veneto in World War I. Alongside sister ships Littorio, Roma, and Impero, Vittorio Veneto engaged extensively in wartime operations. Despite enduring battles unscathed, including the British assault on Taranto in November 1940, the ship faced challenges, sustaining damage from torpedo bombers during the Battle of Cape Matapan in March 1941 and falling victim to a torpedo attack by the HMS Urge in December 1941. Fuel shortages hindered further engagements, limiting its involvement in attacking British convoys bound for Malta. Following Italy's withdrawal from the war in September 1943, Vittorio Veneto surrendered to the Allies and spent the next three years under British control in Egypt. Eventually, the ship was distributed to Britain as a war trophy, marking the end of its illustrious service, as it was dismantled and scrapped post-war.
